Statement of Editorial Procedures:

The copy-text is Wright 1828 [=A], the first known published version of the speech text, written by the co-editor, Wright only days after the address. This is likely the version that readers in the New Harmony community read, and the version from which editors in other periodicals of the day excerpted for their readership. Paragraphing, punctuation, and capitalization follows A. Wright 1829 [=B] was consulted for any major editorial changes Wright may have completed between 1828 and the completion of her public lectures before publishing the book. Paragraph numbers have been added in square brackets.

The text of this edition has been thoroughly checked and proofread.

All double quotation marks are rendered with “, all single quotation marks with apostrophe ‘.

This copy text is not subject to end-of-line hyphenation.
