The copy-text is Kennedy 1961 (=A), the text provided by the Kennedy Presidential Library. Copy text (=A) has been checked against the audio version of the speech (=B) by Sara Ann Mehltretter. This selection was based on the plausible efficacy of the delivered speech on the steps of the Capitol Building. Applause lines have been removed from the copy-text. The Kennedy 1961 address (=A) represents the written transcript of the speech offered by the Kennedy administration. This version is followed for paragraphing, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.
